URL MIGRATION / 003

A new website must remember its old addresses.

Changing architecture without a map creates dead ends for people and search engines. A migration sheet connects every valuable old URL to its best new destination.

Inventory

I combine URLs from the existing website, sitemaps, internal links and available reports. The status of every address stays visible.

Decision

A URL remains, moves, merges into a better page or is removed for a documented reason. Redirect chains are avoided.

Implementation

Permanent 301 redirects point directly to their final destination. Internal links, canonical and hreflang tags use the new addresses.

Verification

After launch, I check HTTP status codes, loops, missing resources and pages unexpectedly returning 404. Only then is migration complete.
